As soon as I saw the flyer online for this show I knew that I would be spending my Friday night at Surrender inside of the Encore hotel in Las Vegas. The hotel and casino has been one of my favorite hangouts since it opened and when you throw Skrillex and Lil Jon in the mix, it was pretty much a no brainer. Being a pretty large hip hop head as well, my curiosity was piqued by Lil Jon as I had never seen him spin electro before. I was in for a serious surprise.
Lil Jon got things started around 1 am. The place was already packed and the bottles were flowing as every table in the place had been purchased on this night. Getting around through the crowd was a nightmare as every party person had their hands up for the majority of the night making my job a little difficult. I couldn’t blame them for being excited because I was just as hyped as I made my way to the stage. Then Lil Jon dropped his first track and well it just got ridiculous after that. I swear for a second that I saw Crunk and EDM come together in one beautiful moment as Lil Jon sprayed the mob of a crowd down with some cold champagne. It was honestly a beautiful site and everyone was loving it.
Dubstep’s boy wonder Skrillex was up next and I was pleased to see that Lil Jon was staying up on stage to help Skrillex keep the crowd hyped for the entire set. I honestly doubt Skrillex needed any help but the two DJs pulled out all of the stops and the energy on that dance floor was just crazy.
Skrillex mixed up his set a bit, playing a variety of remixes and teasing fans with shortened versions of some of his bigger hits. There was a brief moment where it felt like the oxygen had left the room as the sound abruptly disappeared and all you could hear was people screaming. This moment was thankfully short-lived and Skrillex was quick to get on the mic and apologize for the mishap, even though we all knew it wasn’t his fault.
Around 3:00 am I stumbled my way out of the club. A little buzzed from the free drinks that some girl kept giving me and even more buzzed off of the crazy night of music I had just witnessed. I would have to rank this as one of my favorite Vegas moments of all time as Skrillex and Lil Jon provided a mix of music and style that could not have been really matched by any others. I am already a firm believer that it’s pretty hard to not have a good time in Las Vegas but when you are partying with your favorite DJs in one of the coolest clubs on the strip, all you can do is throw your hands up and go crazy. I did just that and slept like a rock for about 5 hours before waking up to do it all again.
Surrender has uploaded an awesome photo album on their Facebook page with more great shots from this night. Click the pic below to check them out.
