So much to post and so little time. I have seriously gotten to the point where I have to start grouping some of these amazing performances together because there is just not enough time in the day to blog about every insane second that I was able to witness while in Las Vegas for Labor Day Weekend.
I want to start off by saying that Encore Beach is a very special place. I have been to many parties all over the world and it’s hard to find a venue that truly matches the over the top style that is packed into every inch of this spectacular pool area. From the plush cabanas equipped with private infinity pools to the snow machines that blanketed the crowd in hundred degree heat, this place feels like a dream every time I come here and when you throw in thousands of beautiful people and the best DJs in the game, you get something that I only hope heaven can compare to.
I had already been to the Encore hotel and casino the night before to catch Lil jon and Skrillex so I was already hyped to be coming back and knew that Steve Angello was going to throw it down as I had heard that the pool was already reaching capacity around 1:00 pm. I jumped in a cab, breezed through the line and grabbed a drink from the bar right away. The atmosphere was amazing. The music was loud and people were dancing everywhere. There was hardly any room in the pool so I went straight for the stage where Steve Angello was already getting busy.
The last time I caught Steve Angello live was at EDC and I was really hyped to see him in a smaller setting where I knew I’d be able to grab some great pics and videos. That’s exactly what I was able to do as the Swedish House Mafia member dropped hit after hit, sending the very rowdy crowd into a dance riot that seemed to continue until he left the stage hours later.
The big difference from this set and his show at EDC was his interaction with the crowd. Besides spraying us with snow ever 5 minutes, Steve signed autographs for fans when his hands weren’t needed on his controls and items from show fliers to hats and t-shirts all got a piece of his John Hancock during his performance. Even though I feel like DJs should be paying attention to their mixes, I thought this was awesome because you could tell that these party goers were some very real fans that would have done anything to catch their hero live. Being a pretty hardcore music fan myself, it’s always great to see a big name treat his fans so well.
This was a beautiful way to spend my first full afternoon in Vegas and while I had to cut out a little bit early to catch Tiesto over at Wet Republic, I was more than satisfied with what Steve Angello brought to Encore Beach. I would be back at this pool side paradise on Sunday for Kaskade and Pete Tong but after that performance from Steve, those guys were going to have their work cut out for them to top this.
