Modeselektor, German electronic production duo, are longtime friends with Thom Yorke of Radiohead and they even collaborate from time to time. Thom Yorke shows up on their new album “Monkeytown” in two tracks and both are worth your attention. Although both songs are over six minutes in length they deserve to be listened to from start to finish.
The first track, “Shipwreck,” is exactly what you would expect a Modeselektor/Yorke collaboration to sound like; a stretched out cross between IDM and krautrock that uses Yorke’s falsetto perfectly. The second track, “This,” is different and has us seriously excited. Modeselektor chops Yorke’s voice up into tons of wordless sounds and then lay it over a bass-heavy electro grumble. The sound they created reminds me a lot of Booka Shade. Check the songs out below and make sure you listen to them all the way through! Enjoy!
