Starting with this week’s edition, we’ll be loopin’ in more of our team to get a broader selection of Wantpicks for you guys (because we don’t all listen to EDM all the time, do we? ok, maybe a few of us). There’s a little bit of everything in here so you’ll for sure find something you like! Let us know YOUR pick of the week in the comments.
Russell: When Kaskade dropped this on Friday at EDC I lost my sh*t!
Laura: This song brings back some EDC memories but it also gets me pumped for the weekend! It’s pretty solid all around, plus any tune deemed essential by SHM is definitely making it on my most played list!
Chloe: This track keeps finding it’s way back into my head – it sounds a lot like Moby/Alesso, two of my favs.
Ben: The only Rihanna song I can actually stand happens to be really good. Thanks to the remixing skills of LoBounce.
Vanessa: The first time I saw this video I realized there are people out there who are just like me, sparkly unitard and all. Macklemore will save any dance party from dying and he reminds us all to pledge allegiance to the DJ.
Jerome: Another fond memory of EDC… DJs dropping this song, and me screaming “BOOOOOOOONG!!!!!!” all by myself soon after hearing it…. Can it be June 2013 already please?
Kit: BECAUSE WE NEED MORE REALNESS… AND LESS WATER-BASED ARTISTS IN THE RAP GAME! OH THIS IS AN EDM BLOG? POST OR DIE!
Alanna: ALL THA RATCHEEEETSSS, 2 DA FLO!! – Bet Diplo is sittin in a corner somewhere like “damn they made a Ratchet song without me??!! *tear*”
Diego: Georgian (The Country, not the Peachy State) based producer Gacha brings summertime fun with Bowl, a house-y jam to groove to… Shout outs to the Kartvelebi peeps, keep on dancin’!
Rebecca: Can’t get to the beach? Just put this on repeat and blend up a tropical drink.
Sufia: Ultraista is super-producer Nigel Godrich’s, new electro-pop band. I have this song on repeat right now. There’s so much going on in this track and yet it still manages to stay light and airy. Not to mention the vocals of Laura Bettinson are gorgeous. The band remains mysterious though; there isn’t much information on a tour or a debut album.
Haley: Animal Collective’s new track “Honeycomb”. I’m loving it… so full of energy and super catchy too! Brings me back to their old sounds, circa Strawberry Jam. I’ll be looking forward to their new 7” dropping on 6/26.
Erika: I chose this particular song as it has to do with a puppy that is lost and all he’s thinking about is his owner. Which is very compelling to me because I have an amazing dog named Prinn and when i’m at work all day she misses me. Dogs are so loyal and it’s a very endearing song that depicts this faithfulness.
Conor: A$AP Rocky is definitely my favorite new school rapper and was just named #2 rapper to watch by Complex. He’s currently recording his first studio album LongLiveA$AP currently with Sony/RCA Records.
Sarah: This song is really old but will always remain one of my favorites because of how just how bizarree it is,from the lyrics to the music video. Despite (or maybe because of) the fact that it makes no sense, it is a pretty classic banger.
Robyn: I discovered Tritonal at EDC when I was walking by Circuit Grounds and thank god I did. They threw one of the best sets of the weekend and ever since, I have been obsessed! Mat Zo remixed one of my favorite songs from them called “Lifted”and I cannot wait to see them again June 22nd!
Jessica: One of the most depressing moments at EDC: pulling the plug on Tommy Trash’s set after an epic 15 minutes! At least he got to play this banger. I’m definitely making up for missing a full Trash set by seeing him twice this month (at Sutra and Lure)! The beauty of living in LA…
