“This sh*t is bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!” pretty much sums up Monday night at Sutra when Dada Life came to town. The crowd was much different than any other show at Sutra I’ve covered because, well, we were there for Dada Life. It was full of people ready to dance, shuffle, stomp, fist pump, and go absolutely balls to the wall NUTS! They are one of the craziest ragers in the business and bring the CHAOS with heavy bass, fast paced electro house hitters, and hilarious lyrics.
The duo opened with a slow build up of “Kick Out the Epic Motherf*cker” but even the slow build up did not stop the crowd. I think I almost went deaf from their screams by the time they dropped “Happy Violence” which they played right after. These hits were followed by more head bangers like Nari and Milani’s “Atom,” Chuckie’s “Who is Ready to Jump” and there was even a dash of old school as they spun Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage.”
Dada kept the crowd on their toes as they rolled out “Unleash the F*cking Dada” and Nicky Romero’s party hit “WTF?!” They got us howling with “Big Bad Wolf” then singing along to “Rolling Stone T-Shirt”. I couldn’t have been happier that night as the men went from “Happy Hands and Happy Feet” (one of my favorites) right into Calvin Harris’ new single “We’ll Be Coming Back”. They even spun “Cookies With a Smile!” When was the last time you heard them crank out that one?!
By the end of the night, all of us were DRENCHED in sweat and/or champagne. We were one big hot mess of people who were borderline deaf but that’s okay! It was SO worth it! We came, we danced, we raged, we went BANANAS!
