EXCLUSIVE: Wantickets Interview with EDX

EDX’s demanding schedule has him traveling all over the world but we were lucky enough to have him stop by our office yesterday for an interview. One of the nicest DJs you’ll ever meet!

Tell us a little about your background – where are you from originally and where do you spend most of your time now?

My name is Maurizio Colella, I was born and raised in Switzerland and have been making music for 20 years. I’m always on the road but I’m mainly in Miami, Zurich and I’m currently spending 6 weeks in LA.

Favorite club or venue?

I’m constantly traveling so it’s hard to pick just one. One of my favorites is Marquee because the sound is amazing!

Do you prefer the festival scene or the club scene?

Both. Clubs are more intimate and I can play longer sets, but festivals are just crazy. I just love both.

Favorite track at the moment?

There’s so much good music out, I can’t pick just one favorite. But one song I really like to play in my sets lately is “Walls” by Sultan & Ned Shepard, really great production!

If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would be it?

Hard to pick just one, but probably something outside of EDM. A lot of collaborations now are with rock, indie and country artists and that’s really great.

How did you come up with the concept for the music video for “Everything”?

My friend Antonio Chirco did my previous two videos and did a great job so we asked him again. Every time I play Marquee I always see Mr. Q going crazy next to me so I wanted to incorporate him somehow.

What song from your album On The Edge are you most proud of?

18 months of hard work went into making the album so I’m proud of everything, but Italian Melo Drama and “Everything” are two of my favorites.

What was it like working with Nadia Ali on “This is your life”?

Nadia is such a talented, sweet person. Loved working with her. We had worked on projects together before but never on an EDX release.

Any big announcements or releases we should be looking out for from you?

I worked on a track that just came out with Chris Reece and Stan Kolev called “Miami Device”. Also be on the lookout for more remixes, including my Arena Club Mix of AVICII’s “Silhouettes” .

Big thanks to EDX for stopping by! Be sure to catch him this weekend:
- Friday @ BLOK in Hollywood – tix here
- Sunday @ TAO Beach in Vegas – tix here
