Recap: Fred Falke, Riva Starr & Viceroy @ Avalon – 8/31

Labor Day Weekend started off with a bang, to say the very least. Friday night was full of raging and awesome music over at Avalon – Fred Falke, Riva Starr and Viceroy were DJ’ing and kicked off the holiday weekend in the best way possible.

I got there for the end of Fred Falke and even though he was winding down he still had the crowd dancing like crazy. He was even playing the electric guitar on stage during his remix of Eva Simons‘ “I Don’t Like You”. I can’t wait to see more of him again soon! (Check out Avalon’s Twitter for a full interview with Fred Falke).

Riva Starr came on after and he immediately launched into some classic house bangers. He played crowd favorites like “Freedom” and “Get Naked” and had everyone on their feet with their hands in the air all night. Each track flowed into the next flawlessly, which made for a perfect party soundtrack. Riva Starr’s set was exactly what I imagine as the definition of club night and I can’t wait to hear more.

Viceroy was the last artist we saw but he was the one we were most excited for. This San Francisco producer is known for his “Summertime, all the time” mantra that shines through in his music. He has some island flair that the audience just can’t get enough of but surprisingly he didn’t play many of his signature dance pop songs. Instead he threw down club hits like “Geronimo” by Fred Falke and The Knocks. He payed homage to some heavy hitters so we weren’t complaining! But the highlight was when he put on his own remix of “Going Back to Cali” by the Notorious B.I.G. – the crowd went nuts and shouted the lyrics the whole way through.

The night was amazing all thanks to Fred Falke, Riva Starr, Viceroy and of course, Avalon. I would highly recommend seeing all three of these guys live – they each put on a great show and gave the audience taste of all different house, electro, and nu disco sounds. Be sure to check them out the next time they’re in your city!
