Calvin Harris and Florence Welch released their long-awaited video for the new single, “Sweet Nothing.” The Vincent Haycock-directed video tells the story of a dysfunctional relationship between Welch and another man. Welch first appears as the songstress in a seedy gentleman’s club dressed as a, wait for it…gentleman! Not only do we see her dressed as a man, but as the story line unfolds Welch is stripped of her ever-glamourous look in favor of a more raw appearance to depict the abusive relationship. Their relationship is delineated by Welch’s lyrics “it’s not enough to tell me that you care.” Harris also makes a cameo appearance in the video as a confidant and protector of Welch. The climax of the video, matched appropriately where the beat gains momentum, features Welch’s beau being jumped by thugs in an alley, while Welch writhes in pain on stage during her performance, depicting a physical intuition between her and her love. The video is certainly unexpected, but a good watch nonetheless.
