Recap: The M Machine @ Avalon – 9/21

Avalon, bass, Calvertron, electro, Hollywood, Moombahton, progressive, recap, the M Machine, torro torro, wantickets

Last Friday night was one of the best Control sessions I’ve been to yet. Toronto-based duo Torro Torro got the crowd pumped by throwing down banger after banger. The guys were awesome and they had everyone jumping and screaming along to their bass-heavy set. My favorite part was when they launched into the Delta Heavy remix of Nero‘s “Must Be The Feeling”. I was able to catch most of their songs and Torro Torro definitely didn’t disappoint. Calvertron closed the night and unfortunately I didn’t catch a lot of the UK producer, but what I heard was awesome. This Control lineup was incredible and the crowd went just as nuts for the opener and closer as they did the headliner. I would love to see both Torro Torro and Calvertron again – if you haven’t caught either you should check them out ASAP.

After Torro Torro came the headliner, The M Machine. I have a job for those of you who haven’t listened to these electro masterminds – go check out their soundcloud IMMEDIATELY. I’m not kidding, do it. The M Machine released their debut album, Metropolis Pt. 1, on Skrillex‘s label OWSLA so you know these guys aren’t messing around. Their live set up is fairly simple but memorable nonetheless (see photos below). It’s refreshing to see artists performing live – vocals, mixing, synths and drums all being played right in front of you.

They opened with “Immigrants” and launched into “Faces”, both fan favorites. The crowd was loving it and I can honestly say it was my favorite Avalon crowd to date. Everyone was in the same mindset and The M Machine provided the perfect soundtrack. I wish the show could have gone on forever but all good things must come to an end. Other notable songs were “No Pun Intended” and “Promise Me A Rose Garden”, both of which brought out the best audience reactions.

Like I said, if you haven’t listened to any of these artists before, you need to do so immediately. Torro Torro, The M Machine, and Calvertron are all amazing and I can’t thank Avalon enough for getting them all under one roof in the same night.
