Top 5 Reactions to DJ Mag’s Top 100

So the EDM world is abuzz with last week’s announcement of the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ list… While it has been surrounded in controversy ever since last year’s… unexpected… results, this year it seemed pretty clear that while it was still an entertaining process of voting and waiting to see how our favorites placed, it seemed to be much less of an actual testament to DJ skills.

Being that we’ve all had our time to mull it over, let’s take a look at some of the best reactions to this year’s results, in an absolutely non-exhaustive, incredibly subjective and in-no-particular order list…

Deadmau5

After last year’s frustrated tweets about being voted as the #4 DJ (hint: Deadmau5 doesn’t claim to be a DJ… EDM 101: Difference between DJ and Producer). Joel seems pretty pleased that he’s dropped down, albeit only to #5. That’s probably all we’ll hear about it from him, too, as he’s made a good move at toning down the online rants and reactions to petty things.

Kaskade

“I really need everyone to understand this: I do not care.”

Kaskade, hot off his whirlwind Freaks of Nature tour, is burned into the hearts of many of his fans, who made it very clear that they looked forward to seeing his placement and hoped for the best. The only person who wasn’t pulling for him… was Kaskade himself. In his This Is A Dynasty blog, with which he’s shared some of his heartfelt thoughts and stories from his tour, he decided to make a statement about how he actually feels about all this. Its well stated and well-intentioned  and you can really tell that he cares so much more about us fans than any arbitrary number. Keep on keeping on, Kaskade, we’ll see you on the dancefloor.

Armin Van Buuren

Ever the gentleman, Armin deserves a nod for his gracious acceptance, but even more for his chance at using his position to give props to one of the most underrated segments of the EDM production and DJing community, the women. That alone wins him points, not for being the returning 5-time winner, but simply for being a classy, thoughtful man. And gotta love the shout out to Nervo, who totally deserve the love!

Pasquale Rotella

Never said they had to be DJ’s, and for one of the most influential people in EDM in America, Pasquale knows what it takes to take the lead… don’t even compete. We all know his lineups have more sway on public opinion than this poll anyways…

Dillon Francis

Actually, I’m gonna call it, Dillon wins for best reaction…
