The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of those holiday traditions that really let you know tis’ the season every year. But once we hit a certain age, we’re probably sleeping through it or don’t really care to see the latest cartoon float we didn’t even know existed and surprise guest appearances by a random Disney Channel stars we could care less to see… but we still tune in to see Santa at the end. Don’t lie.
But this year it very well may be taking some time to tune in, because famed street artist KAWS has been tapped to develop a balloon for the parade! His signature “Companion” character will join the likes of Snoopy, Pikachu and Spider-Man.
To some of the more musically minded, KAWS may also be known as the designer of the album cover for Kanye West‘s album 808′s and Heartbreaks. Kanye, ever a supporter of cutting edge art, is headlining the upcoming UR1 Festival for Basel week in Miami… perhaps we’ll even see some KAWS showing during one of the biggest weeks for art and music in Miami. Don’t miss it!
This is a really interesting move from the parade organizers, perhaps trying to reel back in the young adults and become more relevant… maybe this also means some interesting guest music performances are in store?
