There’s something about Martin Solveig‘s upbeat and carefree sound that just puts a smile right on your face. His newest track “Hey Now” is no exception, but when Laidback Luke gets his hands on it… things get a little more… intense. The chorus and the build are characteristic of the peppy vibes of Martin, but that’s where the similarities stop as the track drops into a big bouncing stomper. Honestly I feel like the drop has absolutely nothing to do with the original and could possibly have been placed in a different context… but in all truth, the second Luke drops this on a big sound system, it’s hard to imagine anyone thinking it’s “out of place.” They’ll be too busy jumping. Location is everything… headphones sitting in a chair, not so much.

In this highly teased and anticipated new video from the boys of Swedish House Mafia, we see a glimpse at a simpler life, away from the bright lights and booming bass. Set to a stripped down cover of the Swede’s hit song “Leave the World Behind” by Linnéa Martinsson (who previously sang Adrian Lux’s “Teenage Crime”) under the moniker Lune, her haunting rendition of the huge house classic fits the chilling yet serene video.

It’s funny because the video/setting/theme of the song seems to imply that Steve, Axwell, and Sebastian quite literally left the world behind and returned to their roots and a simpler life (So simple that Steve is seen brushing his teeth in a waterfall…?) but we all know that just as quickly as the curtain fell on Swedish House Mafia, the 3 went off and hit the ground running with packed solo schedules. We’ll suspend our disbelief for the sake of art and watch the 3 wander aimlessly in a video that kinda just makes them all look depressed… But really, it’s a pretty cover and a visually striking video, and let’s be honest: It’s just good to see the Swedes again.

This weekend the Culprit Sessions are hitting the Standard Hotel rooftop in Los Angeles and bringing the heat with PBR Streetgang and French house maestro Dan Ghenacia for a day full of good vibes and sunshine, with a side of pool party. I’ll be the first to say I’m usually really cautious with Mashups… most end up just being a weak drop-swap… but Don Diablo is serious with his newest bootleg that he’s prepped for his upcoming “Hexagon” show (I want to go to there). I think every single post we’ve done of Don (or Axtone, for that matter) we’ve begged him for “Starlight“… but this bootleg nearly erases all of that concern because damn… he’s just generally on to something amazing here.

He’s combined 3 of my personal favorite tracks of the last year: Oliver‘s “MYB”, Dog Blood‘s “Next Order”, and “Doin’ it Right” off Daft Punk‘s Random Access Memories, which leaked early this week. The 3 tracks work so well into eachother that it’s almost hard to tell where “MYB” ends and “Next Order” begins in the bubbling electro beat, and the “Doin’ it Right” sample is just icing on the cake that draws you in and brings the whole package together. Just try to not dance to this one. It’s impossible.

While it may not be the “Hexagon” show that he’s throwing down across the pond, Don Diablo is hitting our shores in June, with a show at Studio Paris in Chicago on June 12 and then coming out to Los Angeles for a special edition of Control at the Avalon on June 14. Mark your calendars… cause with the catalog of solid releases under Don’s belt, who knows what more tricks he’ll have up his sleeve.
