What a tease Alvin Risk is. The preview for his new song Skyclad is worse than an episode of Lost in leaving audiences with a cliff hanger. After an awesome build the preview cuts off just as the song is about to drop. Very frustrating as everything up to that point sounds great. Unfortunately all I can think is how cruel (and typical) it is to cut a preview off right before the drop. Luckily we won’t have to wait too long, as the song will be out March 5th. I’ll forgive Alvin Risk then.

If you want to see Alvin Risk live he will be at Mansion in Miami with Zedd on March 17th. Tickets are available here. I’m sure he’ll play “Skyclad” in it’s entirety there…

So last month, everyone heard about the set that got legendary DJ Shadow kicked off the decks at Miami’s Mansion Nightclub. It was not the first time high-paying guests at a club have gone and ruined everyone’s fun by demanding a change in the music. The complaint from the particular person who apparently can’t be told “no” was that Shadow’s music was “Too Future.” A strange complaint to have when you’re dealing with one of electronic music’s longest-standing legends and innovators. Nevertheless, fans and DJ Shadow himself have made a point of speaking out and voicing their disappointment with the decision. Shortly afterwards, the club released a public formal apology and has ensured that they will avoid an issue like this ever happening again. But the damage to reputation and trust in lineups may already be done, as fans still continue to voice concern and support for Shadow… personally, I think it is just a case of some VIP who has no concept of paying fans coming specifically for a show, expecting to just sit at their table while a DJ plays popular radio songs for them to schmooze to.

Regardless, now it’s your turn to decide. Shadow has released the infamous “All Bases Covered” Set, whose Miami stop was one of the last on a tour that brought him all over the country to big cities like Madison, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, and more. I guess all those cities are just so much more “future” than Miami. They do say Florida is a bunch of old retired people, anyways, so maybe it’s not actually that surprising. (Just kidding, Miami, I know you guys like to get down, you just need to train your VIPs to appreciate good music).

As the name might imply, Shadow really does make a point of hitting all the bases as far as song selections go. Sure, there are some more experimental and unique song choices, as well as some intense drum and bass (apparently that’s what pushed the limit of “future”… what with it actually being a relatively older style of music than current day big-room house). It even ends with a healthy selection of Trap… so yeah, I’d say pretty much all the bases are covered. It’s available for listening and free downloading below, now you can make the decision for yourself if you’re ready for the future or not.

The dance floor at the Avalon was completely transformed into an ethereal wonderland last Thursday. Trees that donned twinkly lights were interspersed throughout the room to changed the vibe of the nightclub.

Preceding the Swedish duo, Stu Tyson, better known as Bass Kleph, took the stage. If you weren’t sure who he was, the crowd’s reaction to Bass Kleph taking the stage might’ve made you think he was the headliner. His set was full of bass and awesome dance hits, but more than that he was very interactive with the audience. Bass Kleph’s set couldn’t have been a better introduction to Cazzette.

Alexander and Sebastian took over closer to 3 a.m. – sporting their signature headgear – kicking off their set with the first single off Eject pt. I EP “On The Road.” After suffering a minor sound malfunction, the duo continued their set, which included more mainstream tracks rather than songs off their latest album. The set included a remix of Swedish House Mafia’s “Antidote”, Nadia Ali’s “Pressure”, Calvin Harris’ hit single, “Sweet Nothing” and Tujamo & Plastik Funk’s “Who”. The songs off their newest album included the hard-hitting “Hit Da Face,” which was a personal favorite, but sounded even better live. Cazzette also included their hit singles, “Beam Me Up (Kill Mode)” and “The Rat,” which also proved to sound even better in person.

Overall, the club was packed with a crowd that was intent on dancing as long as the DJs kept playing!
