Charlie Darker’s new song consists of anthemic chords that build the song before disappearing into twisted drops that might be enough to cause anxiety in some, but should have everyone else raging. It’s a big track from a one of our favorites here at Wantickets, and he also killed it as the guest mixer on our latest Wantpicks episode. Anxiety will be released April 16th and will get Darker’s summer started with a bang.

Other big things include a show at the legendary Webster Hall in New York City. He will be there April 13th. Tickets are available here.

I think I have a concussion. I’m not sure if it’s from the fact that I could feel the bass rattling my brain or that I was taking elbows Wednesday night like my name is James Harden. Regardless of why my head is throbbing as I sit here trying to coherently explain a night that barely seems real to me, I can safely say that Orientation LA at Club Nokia was one of the rowdiest, most chaotically fun shows I have ever been to. Not bad for a weekday night.

My plan for Orientation LA was to get there early. With gLAdiator leading off the festivities I did not want to miss a minute. Unfortunately due to some poor planning on my groups part we did not get in to Club Nokia until their set was almost over. My disappointment quickly evaporated into the air that was already approaching tropical rain forest levels of heat and humidity. I knew I wasn’t getting out of Club Nokia looking fresh, which wasn’t really a concern seeing how my friend had spilled his beverage on me on the journey there. A little sloppiness never killed anyone. We started making up for lost time, immediately starting a dance circle. gLAdiator soon finished and left the stage. Next up was Congorock.

I had seen Congorock before and wondered how he fit into the lineup. gLAdiator and Flosstradamus both run the trap while araabMUZIK lays down killer hip-hop beats. I had always associated Congorock with electro and had previously seen him perform with Zedd and Laidback Luke. I was worried that the crowd would not react to his music. As he started spinning I realized I was way off with my guess. He proved to be a musical chameleon and within minutes the packed floor was back at it dancing away. Congorock played “Ivory” and its sinister sound really stuck out to me.

Playing it showed that there are different ways to go ratchet and crowds will respond to the energy regardless of the style. Another song that stuck out to me was “Booty Bounce” by GTA. I’m not ashamed to admit even I had my booty bouncing double time to the beat. In a weird coincidence after this song was over I looked around and saw exactly zero of my friends around me. No worries though, I just kept right on dancing.

At some point, unknown to me, Congorock ended and I stopped dancing. Far from concerned about being alone I made my way to the center to wait for araabMUZIK to start. aarabMUZIK emerged and immediately started hammering away on his MPC starting with a song off of his incredible new mixtape “For Professional Use Only.”

While I was dancing I looked in front of me to see a girl inviting me to dance. Always down for the occasional rave boo I accepted her invitation and we started dancing in a way that would have made Major Lazer’s crew blush. aarabMUZIK’s hip hop sound transported me back to my heydays of high school dances, and the fact that we were up against the railing that separated the floor we were on from the pit did not clean up our act. His set flew by, a flurry of heavy bass and chopped up samples. When he finished my rave boo motioned that she wanted to tell me something. Thinking she might be complimenting my moves or maybe telling me her name I obliged. “I’m going to the bathroom. Wait here.” I nodded and she left. Little did she know that I wait for no one.

My rave boo was not back by the time Flosstradamus took the stage. Before their music even came through the speakers mayhem was breaking out in the pit in front of me. The bouncers guarding the entrances were overwhelmed and I took my chance to jump the railing. I immediately knew I had made the right decision when some one elbowed me in the face as I was ducking through the crowd. I popped up right next to my friends and we rejoiced at being reunited. Meanwhile Flosstradamus was killing it onstage. Dropping tracks with stupid amounts of bass including a heavy remix of Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle.”

While the light show was standard, it was made way more amazing by their glow in the dark clothing. When ever either was in the dark their hoodies and hats would light up with secret symbols. It was one of the coolest unintentional effects I have ever seen in a light show. While I was awestruck by their attire a mosh pit was breaking out all around me. I was in the middle, and had no intent on leaving it’s chaotic embrace. I got hit and pushed and ended up bowling into a group of people with their backs to us. Sorry, but I was having the time of my life. Since I was forcibly ejected from the mosh pit I decided not to reenter lessening my chance of further bodily harm. Everyone in the building was going hard anyway, and at one point Flosstradamus managed to blow out the power on stage. Luckily this didn’t last long and they were quickly back to banging out tracks.

As the end of their set drew near I heard a voice boom out “Run the Trap. Knowing that “Original Don” was about to start up I prepared myself for utter insanity to break loose. As the song dropped into their ridiculous trap remix the crowd opened up into a mosh pit once again. The energy was unfathomable and people were bouncing off of each other with reckless abandon.

Soon after the show came to an end, and I wandered out dazed and wondering once again where my friends were. My ears were ringing, my head was pounding and I was covered in more sweat than clothing. The past hours had been a blur of good music and devious behavior that will not soon be topped.

If you want to experience true trap mayhem for yourself Flosstradamus will be playing Webster Hall in New York City March 29th. Tickets are available here.

“We Are” is a good reminder of why trap music is awesome. There’s the nefarious sounding synths, the braggadocio of the lyric sample, the hi hats going off and of course the heavy kick of the bass. heRobust and gLAdiator have combined these and other elements to create a song that you can’t help feeling like a bad ass listening to. Its dark and dangerous sound brings the vibe of the song much closer to trap’s roots in southern rap than most other trap tracks. This song is going to sound murderous booming from speakers and you should catch it live immediately.

You can catch gLAdiator at Ultra during Winter Music Conference. heRobust will be playing Webster Hall in New York City May 13th. The minimix includes snippets from every track on the album mixed together in slightly under thirteen minutes. The album seems to tell the story of a teenage boy who becomes fused together with his car when he has an accident. After the introduction Kavinsky lets his dramatic French electro do most of the story telling. The music is great and influences from legendary French artists like Daft Punk, Justice and SebastiAn are evident. The mix teases the album very well, giving listeners just enough to keep them wanting more.

If you want to see Kavinsky live he will be playing at Webster Hall in New York City March 8.
