PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT: Santigold
Brooklyn-based performer, Santi White, better known today as Santigold, has become a unique and inspiring figure in the music world. Santigold’s 2008 album helped establish her internationally and has become one of the most exciting and anticipated artists to emerge in the last decade. Santigold defines cutting-edge cool. Since roaring into the scene back in 2007 with her hits, “Creator” and “L.E.S. Artistes”, there is no denying her badass presence beyond her signature style and vocal chops. Her latest release, Master of My Make-Believe, continues to rake up multiple accolades from both critics and audiences alike, gaining new fans and solidifying old ones. The album was well-received and became one of the top 10 albums of that year across the world. Santigold has collaborated with industry heavy-weights like Jay-Z, David Byrne, Major Lazer, Beastie Boys, and many more.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Douglas Hoekzema
Local Miami artist, Douglas Hoekzema has been creating art for more than half his life. Unlike other artists who majored in fine arts-related subjects during college, Hoekzema majored in something else: architecture. After graduating from a five year architecture program during the recession, he found it nearly impossible to find a position in the field. After working a few dead-end jobs over the course of the next year, he eventually turned towards his true passion: art. Now instead of creating buildings, Hoekzema is creating art murals on their walls, including the tennis court at Delray Beach for the International Tennis Tournament. UR1 Festival will feature the Miami local’s masterpieces, along with many other pieces of art.
