I don’t know what rock I’ve been living under, but apparently there’s been a trend in “unboxing” videos showing off the first moments of opening a new product and what is contained within. Really though, there’s thousands of these videos, a consumer-reports esque check to make sure things are really just as exciting as they look.

And oh, is Random Access Memories exciting.

Featuring the two robots, well, opening the record and examining the contents, the video ends with the placement of the record on the turntable, giving fans that all too familiar click and hiss from the second the needle touches the record, a sound packed with even more anticipation than the rest of the unboxing itself. The video ends with the first few seconds of the first track, ”Give Life Back To Music”, a never-before heard snippet that kicks off the beginning of what is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated albums of the year (if not longer), and the swelling epic build couldn’t be more fitting for the caliber of the record.

Random Access Memories is out in-stores 5/21/13, you can also Pre-Order the album on: iTunes, Amazon, or Direct. Get ready for music as you know it to change. Daft Punk is back.

The audio is available on Soundcloud, and a very cool video on Youtube mixes professional and fan submitted video along with the HD audio. This is a very cool concept that lets viewers experience the chaos that the set caused. The festival goer’s perspective is captured in a very real way. At times the bouncing video people took as they were jumping up and down did make me a little nauseous, but I can hardly fault them as most of my videos from shows turn out the same way. I applaud Knife Party’s effort to incorporate the crowd videos and really hope that more artists get their fans involved in this way in the future.

The music itself is of course a massive party all the way through. Right from the start they set the tone with their new single “Power Glove” and proceeded, as the vocal sample says, to play with power. Their other raging songs like “Antidote” and their remix of “Save the World” are also present along with the still addicting “Internet Friends” that first secured Knife Party a special place in listener’s hearts. The set is worth checking out and you can watch the video, listen to and download it below.

Knife Party will be at Surrender in Las Vegas April 10th. Tickets are available here.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably familiar with the Fool’s Gold Records front man and turntable legend A-Trak. In the 3rd edition of his “Short Cuts” series on the Potato YouTube Channel launched by himself, Diplo and Skrillex, he shows off one of his signature scratch routines to his recent hit collab with Tommy Trash, “Tuna Melt” off the EP of the same name. Of course it wouldn’t be A-Trak if it wasn’t a little weird, so the goofy costumes and quick cuts are pretty much commonplace and expected just as much as the impressive talent. If you’ve ever seen A-Trak live you know the kinds of mastery he has over the turntables, and now you can experience it again whenever you want with the “Short Cuts”. Check out what I’m talking about below:

***
And as a little bonus, check out the “Bitmash” version of Tuna Melt, done entirely in 8-bit. Almost makes me want to whip out the Super Nintendo… would you play the Tuna Melt game?

Banana suit owners of the world, it’s your time. Swedish power players Dada Life have seen a need for this earth to get a little bit wilder, a little bit more champagne-drenched, and most importantly loads more uglier. For most EDM fans tomorrow might have been an average Wednesday but now Dada Life’s declared March 6, 2013, as Dada Land Independence Day in honor of their fight to establish Dada Land as its own sovereign nation. Think these guys aren’t serious? Think again – they’re pushing fans to help collect 10,000 signatures to get Dada Land up and running as a society of its own. As they put it, they plan to “continue to assert our human right to Arrive Beautiful and Leave Ugly.” I’m definitely convinced in joining the fight and already slipping on my best banana getup as an act of patriotism.

You can rally for the cause with other Dada fans in London, New York, Stockholm, Sydney, and Washington D.C. The masterminds behind “Kick Out The Epic Motherf**ker” are dead set on making this a reality – they’ve even submitted a Dada-centric Declaration of Independence to the U.N. Will you be part of the movement? Get started by signing the petition here.
